IF - Emergency

Oh, this is a real emergency! I hope that "it" doesn't find out where he is hiding.

I really don't know why I keep drawing this little boy, barefoot again, and without showing the the real reason of the emergency, like I didn't draw what he was missing last time. This looks like a repeating pattern.

Gokhan in Thumbnail Size

I understand that it's not easy as it looks to simplify the lines and still keep the same expression. Even if you know those lines by heart.
I tried to draw my partner Gokhan, exaggerated his characteristic lines to make him recognizable. Then I asked his 8 years old son whether it looks like his father. Well, he said, his hair and eyebrows are less dark and his beard is darker (because he has not shaved today). So I made these corrections.

This time I asked Gokhan, and he said, you made me a tramp.
I started to love GIMP.

Learning GIMP

Many years ago, one of my arts teachers in high school said that I was not painting but drawing with color. Well, he was right, but I thought he meant that I should paint and remember having felt offended as a sensitive cancer. I thought that I was not talented enough to go to arts school and studied engineering instead:)
This is painted on one of my pictures using my tablet (birthday present from my boyfriend) and GIMP. Since one week I was going through the online tutorials and at the end I think I know a bit more about layers. Using gradient fill was already exciting but my discovery of gaussian blur for the skin was really sugar on top!

IF - Missing

I am a beginner and will always be one. Now at the age of 41 I begin to draw, for the first time after school years. I never had any lessons or tried to paint. I was busy with studying engineering, working as a manager and being a mother. However the wish to draw never disappeared. The small sketches I was drawing secretly while listening to lessons at that time came back recently in form of small secret sketches during business meetings, but I didn't know where to start. Then one day I stopped by www. illustrationfriday.com and the sketch above came alive. I don't know what he is looking for under his mother's bed, but for sure something which is missing.
I hope to receive some feedback for my amateur sketches and hope to learn to develop them to real paintings.
